John Salt
British painter and graphic artist, John Salt studied at the College of Art in his native Birmingham and at the *Slade School, London. After teaching at various art colleges, he moved to New York in 1967 and lived there until 1978. In the USA his style changed abruptly from a mechanical style of abstraction to *Superrealism and by the mid-1970s he had become one of the best-known artists working in this vein.

Peintre et graphiste britannique, John Salt a étudié au College of Art de sa ville natale de Birmingham et à la *Slade School, Londres. Après avoir enseigné dans diverses écoles d'art, il s'installe à New York en 1967 et y vit jusqu'en 1978. Aux Etats-Unis, son style changea brusquement d'un style d'abstraction mécanique à un style surréaliste et au milieu des années 70, il était devenu l'un des artistes les plus connus travaillant dans ce domaine.
