Philip Munoz
Philip Munoz is a self-taught painter who graduated with a degree in biochemistry from the University of Bristol.
Philip explains his work by saying, “My work is concerned with the notion of glamour and its role in social identity. I am particularly interested in the idea of beauty through transformation and the concept of the contemporary sublime. Digital photography is an essential tool in my work. It creates an emotional platform to connect with the subject, whilst the staging and the artificiality of a photo shoot serve to enhance the visual language of the imagery and the subsequent portrait. In the last year or so, my work has increasingly focused on creating portraits and figures immersed in the “urban” context. Whether a close up examination of the glamorous and modified, adorned with tattoos and piercings or a figure caught in a fleeting moment of city life.”
Philip Munoz est un peintre autodidacte diplômé en biochimie de l'Université de Bristol.
Philip explique son travail en disant : "Mon travail concerne la notion de glamour et son rôle dans l'identité sociale. Je m'intéresse particulièrement à l'idée de la beauté par la transformation et au concept du sublime contemporain. La photographie numérique est un outil essentiel dans mon travail. La mise en scène et l'artificialité d'une séance photo servent à mettre en valeur le langage visuel de l'image et du portrait qui en découle. Depuis un an environ, mon travail se concentre de plus en plus sur la création de portraits et de figures immergés dans le contexte "urbain". Un gros plan autour du glamour modifié, orné de tatouages et de piercings ou d'un personnage pris dans un moment fugace de la vie urbaine."
